The Pillow Paks™ line consists of a wide variety of sizes, configurations, and substrates. These packets can be used to absorb moisture, odor or gas. Custom blends are available and can be used as a multifunction (two in one) package. Example: 50/50 blend silica gel and carbon for moisture and odor control.

Unit Paks™

The Unit Pak line offers drying & protection for all sizes of packaging. Unit Paks meet or exceed MIL Spec 3464, Type I & II. A “”unit””, which is a Military Specification for packaging. The term “unit” is a quantity of desiccant, which will absorb a set percentage of its weight at certain levels of humidity. For convenience, one “unit” is approximately equal to one ounce.

Desi Pak® (Bentonite Clay): Moisture Adsorbent

Desi-Pak® is a dimensionally stable, chemically inert, aluminum silcate clay packaged in non-dusting, air permeable bags. The internal structure of this clay is a network of microscopic pores that attract and hold water through physical adsorption. Desi-Pak® remains dry and will not soften or liquefy even at full water saturation. It is non-corrosive and can be placed in direct contact with metal parts.

Sorb-it® (Silica Gel): Moisture Adsorbent

2 Unit Sorb-it packs contain silica gel that controls moisture in contained environments. The pouches prevent mildew, rust, corrosion, mold, and other moisture damage during shipping and/or storage. Sorb-it absorbs moisture from the surrounding environment, yet remains dry to the touch, even at maximum capacity. Each 2 unit pouch measures 5″ x 4.5″.

Ethylene Eliminator Pak

Ethylene is a naturally occurring hormone produced by fruits and vegetables. It is essential in controlling many aspects of normal growth and development and is also the agent responsible for ripening fruits and vegetables. Increased in ethylene gas levels threatens the life cycle of post- harvest fruits and vegetables. By using Desiccare’s Ethylene Eliminator Pak, ethylene gas is removed and slows down the ripening process of fruits and vegetables,reducing food loss and spoilage. The Ethylene Eliminator Pak is recommended for post-harvest produce that is not going to be consumed right away.

Getter Pak® (Carbon): Odor & Gas Adsorbent

Getter Packets use activated carbon to control objectionable odors and gasses through the process of adsorption. Perfect for use in pharmaceutical or nutraceutical packaging. The active ingredient in Getter Paks is activated carbon. Carbon exhibits a highly porous structure with a large surface area. Most gases and volatile organic molecules are drawn to this surface and bond effectively. Uses range from pharmaceuticals to electronics. Getter is capable of adsorbing 50% of its weight of carbon tetrachloride at 25°C (77ºF).

Tri-Sorb® (Molecular Sieve): Moisture & Odor/Gas Adsorbent

Tri-Sorb molecular sieve desiccants are the most aggressive of Süd-Chemie’s desiccant options. Based on the synthetic zeolite (molecular sieve) types 3A, 4A and 13X, these zeolites exhibit crystalline structures with well-defi ned and uniform pores of 3Å, 4Å and 10Å diameters respectively. Tri-Sorb adsorbs water vapor and gas molecules that fi t into the pores. The adsorption capacity of Tri-Sorb is relatively high at low humidity levels and remains almost constant as relative humidity increases. The adsorption rate is also high at high humidity levels, where Tri-Sorb accepts moisture much faster than Desi Pak, making handling more difficult. The adsorption capacity of Tri-Sorb as a function of temperature remains constant at constant relative humidity and absolute humidity between 20°C and 50°C. Tri-Sorb products can be reactivated for multiple uses.

Cargo Dry is a specially formulated desiccant designed to lower the dewpoint inside shipping and storage containers.

CARGO DryPlus® Strips consist of a three bag strip containing 1,000 grams secured to a convenient hook that is easier to hang in most large containers.

CARGO DryPaks® contain 1,500 grams in a sewn bag with strings for easy placement throughout shipping and storage containers.

Container Dri® II (Cargo Desiccants)

Purpose:

To eliminate mold, corrosion, mildew, spoilage, warping and other harmful effects of moisture during shipping via container, rail, barge or truck.

What is it?
Container Dri® II is a line of specially designed cargo desiccants aimed at protecting products during shipping by aggressively absorbing moisture from the air. In doing so, Container Dri® II reduces dew point temperature and eliminates condensation, keeping cargo safe and dry.

Why use it?
Container Dri® II absorbs up to three times its weight in moisture and traps it as a thick, no-spill gel. Container Dri® II has the ability to protect shipments from start to finish, through all temperature ranges and relative humidity variances.

Available configurations:

  • Container Dri® II is available in 125-gram bags, either with or without adhesive backing.
  • Container Dri® II Strip, composed of 6 continuous adhesive bags, is the only cargo desiccant on the market with an adhesive backing that ensures easy installation onto the walls of shipping containers.
  • Container Dri® II Plus is a specialized configuration for installation in rail, barge or shipping containers where hanging and suspending of the desiccant in preferable.

Usage recommendations:

  • Generally, 32 to 36 bags (125-gram) of Container Dri® II are recommended for 20-foot shipping containers, and 64 to 72 bags for 40-foot shipping containers.
  • 5 to 6 Container Dri® Plus bags are recommended for 40-foot containers and standard box and hopper rail cars.

Humidity Indicating Cards (H.I.C.)

Desiccare, Inc. manufactures a full line of Humidity Indicating Cards (H.I.C.) which allows a low cost method of indicating humidity conditions for various types of applications including MIL Spec (MIL-I-8835) applications. Printed on a small paper with moisture sensitive spots that turn from blue to pink to indicate humidity levels. The 30%, 40%, 50% H.I.C. complies with the MS20003-2 and the 5%, 10%, 15% complies with JEDEC Standard 033 and the 5%, 10%, – 60% complies with JDEC Standard 033B. They are available in many configurations and custom cards with custom printing are available for any applications.

Desiccants – General Information

Purpose:
To protect goods within a sealed moisture barrier package or container from moisture damage.

What are they?
Desiccant bags adsorb moisture, odors and chemicals to preserve and protect products. They range in size from 1/6 unit to 80 units (5 ½ grams to 2,640 grams) to protect any number of products, including semiconductors, electronics, cartons of food or even large machinery.

Why use them?
Whether in storage or transit, products in nearly every industry require protection from moisture. Rust, mildew, mold and an overall decrease in product efficacy are all common effects of moisture, costing millions in returned or unusable products each year.

Available configurations:
Desiccant bags are packaged in DuPont Tyvek®, GDT-II or high-strength polyester rayon materials, all of which are strong, durable and meet FDQ specifications. Bags are available in the following configurations:

  • DesiPak® – Bentonite clay (moisture adsorption)
  • GetterPak® – Activated carbon (odor control)
